Sales Pro 2017: Coming Again Like Ground Hogs Day

mark-nibloPost written by Mark Niblo, Marketing Director at Durvet | Long Distance Runner | Iowa by Birth-Kansas City by Choice

Summer is fast approaching and once again Durvet is in full preparation for our annual get-together we call Sales Pro.

I’ve been at this for so long that it’s beginning to feel like I’m in the movie “Groundhog Day”.

The good part is I feel we’ve refined it each year to make it better and do everything we can to avoid mistakes. The 2017 meeting is in the Mile “High” city of Denver.  Temptations aren’t new for conventions or sales meetings, but this site offers some unique ones that a few years back wouldn’t have even been considered.

(HEADS UP: If you read no more of this blog, please skip to the end and read point #1 under other tidbits….maybe even a couple of times.)

This event is our company’s gathering of staff, top vendor partners and the best distributor sales professionals in the animal health industry. I’ve witnessed and participated in many things over the last 17 years that have provided me with some great learning experiences. Some good, some bad, but many worth sharing and so I hope this information will help you and others who plan to attend Sales Pro this year. Shipping 101: The Challenges of Old Man Winter

mike gallagherPost written by Mike Gallagher, Sales Coordinator

I’m a true believer of the four seasons in weather. There’s an old saying we’ve all heard before:

“If you don’t like the weather currently, stay around a few hours because it will change.”

At Durvet, we deal with the change of seasons in our business. The weather, winter or summer, dictates whether we can ship products out of our warehouse to the distributors’ warehouses. Right now, we’re in the extreme part of the year and dealing with colder temperatures.

As I researched information for this post, I tapped into the vast knowledge of Bobby Bowers, Durvet’s Warehouse Manager. A big part of Bobby’s job each and every day is to make the decision to ship out our freight and keep it in good selling condition for our distributors. Flying the Friendly Skies? A Tale of Two Airline Experiences…By Mark Niblo

I fly often for work and I think I notice things over time that the occasional vacation traveler probably doesn’t.

I fly Airline A most of the time and I have gotten to where I really like them. They’re almost always on time, don’t have an “Executive Lounge”, and they don’t give me free First Class seating on their planes.

I fly them because they have respect for all of their passengers and treat everyone like First Class travelers.

My bag fees are included in the price of my ticket and I get to choose my seat. If I don’t get a good seat, it’s because I forgot to check in on time… not because they decided I wasn’t worthy of anything but their most uncomfortable seats in the middle of the row, all the way to the back of the plane. Lessons from 16 Years of Sales Pro…By Mark Niblo

Sales Pro 2016 is in the books! Hats off to everyone who participated in making this annual event another great success.

We’ve been doing this event every year since 2000, moving it from city to city and exposing our distributor salespeople to many different parts of the country.

I think back to 16 years ago when we started this meeting on how difficult it was to get our supplier partners excited about participating. I’m convinced that this was due to the fact that annual sales meetings had gotten such a bad reputation.

I, of course, blame this on our competitors who hold annual events and had a habit of over-charging, over-promising, sometimes threatening, and then under-delivering results year after year. Continue reading “Lessons from 16 Years of Sales Pro…By Mark Niblo”

Stand Up Or Stick Your Head In The Sand…By Bill Boots

Bill BootsPost written by Bill Boots, Livestock Brand Manager | Animal Health Industry Lifer | KC Sports Fan | Basketball Junkie

How many of us who own a vehicle have received a notice or at least heard about a vehicle “recall” for some gadget or device?

Over the years the list has grown pretty long from defective air bags to seats that get too hot to trunks that won’t open. Some items seem pretty trivial and some are critically important for our safety.

My brother sells cars and sometimes their used car lot is full of cars that have a “Do Not Sell” sticker because they’re waiting (sometimes for months) for recalled parts to be replaced. It can be very frustrating for all parties involved.

This all-too-common scenario brings me to our industry and how Animal Health companies respond when faced with product failures or defects. Continue reading “Stand Up Or Stick Your Head In The Sand…By Bill Boots”

You’ve Got A Loyal Customer For Life…By Kassie Kreissler

I don’t always get to make a customer’s week go right, but when I do, it’s completely awesome.

Not long ago I received an email from a customer regarding a DuraMask™ product, which is a Durvet-labeled fly mask. She had purchased two fly masks and the stitching had come out in one of them. She went on to tell me that she didn’t have her receipt. I told her I would be happy to replace the mask and there was no need for her ship the defective mask back to us.

After receiving my email response, she quickly replied back…

“Wow, that’s wonderful!!!!  Thank you so much. I’ve used DuraMasks™ for years and years, but I wasn’t really hopeful that you’d be able to help without the receipt. Thank you!!!!” Continue reading “You’ve Got A Loyal Customer For Life…By Kassie Kreissler”
